Kevin Campbell: De Sciglio would be cheap Everton alternative for Dumfries

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has insisted that Everton could miss out on Denzel Dumfries this summer after he shined at EURO 2020.

The Toffees have since been linked with Matteo De Sciglio, who could be available for only £4.3million [Calciomercato].

Campbell insisted that he would prefer Dumfries at Goodison Park, but that the Italian would be a cheap alternative.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I would rather see Dumfries.

“Sometimes when you get talking, and he’s had a good tournament, there will be a lot of clubs after him. One thing you don’t want is a bidding war.

“There might be someone turning around and saying, we may go down this route instead, and if you can get the next one down, you take it.

“Cheap money.”

All eyes.

Right-back is the main position that needs strengthening this summer, so everyone will be paying close attention to this one.

Dumfries was sensational for Holland during the EUROs, and that has seen interest from the likes of Inter Milan.

De Sciglio would offer more experience from his time with Juventus throughout his career, but is much older.

Seamus Coleman already brings plenty of experience in that position, so a younger option could be much smarter.

Time will tell, but Marcel Brands will be looking for his next signing under strict instruction from the likes of Rafa Benitez.
