Jim White: I’ll miss Goodison when Everton move into new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium

Jim White admits he’ll miss Goodison Park once Everton say goodbye to their historic ground to move to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Construction on the new state-of-the-art stadium begins later this month, prompting an Evertonian to contact talkSPORT over their lack of coverage of the major development at Merseyside.

TalkSPORT host White claims he’s totally aware of Everton’s move away from Stanley Park and says that while he’ll miss Goodison, he won’t miss it anywhere near as much as the club’s supporters.

“I’m determined to mention this because a number of Evertonians have been getting in touch with us,” said White on talkSPORT on Tuesday [12:50pm].

“‘Jim, Simon, come on. We begin construction of our new stadium this month – have you not noticed it?’. Yes, we do know this.

“Farhad Moshiri’s money has helped out here. 52,888 capacity stadium.

“From my point of view, I’ll miss Goodison and not in any way, shape or form in the way diehard Evertonians will because it’s got a magic all on it’s own.

“But they’re moving to their new home and yes, construction begins this month.

“It begs the question – can you only be viewed as an elite club with an elite stadium?”

It’ll be a sad day for us all

As much as we’re excited about the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock and what it means for the club as a whole, we’ll be gutted to say goodbye to Goodison Park.

Tottenham, Arsenal and West Ham have all waved goodbye to historical stadiums in the last couple of decades and we’re set to become the next big English club to do the same.

There’s definitely a bedding-in period for teams that do move on but based on our home form at Goodison Park last season, it’s not as though things could get much worse moving to the new 52,888-seater.

But the hardest thing will be saying goodbye to our seats, the places we’ve sat and felt every emotion football can give us. Saying goodbye to the view, the atmosphere, the surrounding area and starting afresh elsewhere.

It’ll be difficult – but also exciting.

Moshiri has shown his willingness to turn Everton in a powerhouse of English football with this move.

He’s pumped a lot of money into this club and it’s time for the players to finally start showing him some return on his investment.

In other Everton news, a BBC pundit claims these Blues stars will be unexpectedly shunned by Rafa Benitez.
