Simon Jordan: Everton to make up to £16m extra every season from new stadium
Everton could make up to £16million extra every season once they completed their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, according to Simon Jordan.
Construction for the new 52,888-seater will begin later this month with the Toffees set to enter one of their final seasons at Goodison Park this year.
There are no expectations on when the new stadium will officially open just yet with ground yet to be broken.
However once it does, ex-Crystal Palace owner Jordan believes the state-of-the-art facility will boost Everton’s finances year after year.
“Everton moving into a new stadium will give them 14,000 more fans per game which probably gives £10-16million in extra revenue per season,” said Jordan on talkSPORT on Tuesday [12:51pm].
“It puts them in a place where they’ve got a purpose-built stadium for the 21st century.
“Despite Goodison Park being a wonderful stadium that I’ve been to on many occasions, like most of these stadiums they were built at a certain time, the world has moved on and the expectation of how you watch football.”
Excited – or gutted?
Let’s face it, moving to a new stadium won’t divide the Evertonian fanbase quite like the way hiring Liverpool legend Rafa Benitez as their new manager – but moving to a new stadium will bring issues.
While we should be excited about a new dawn and a fresh start at a new stadium away from Stanley Park, there’s also a sense of feeling downbeat about that move.
Goodison Park is one of the most iconic stadiums in English football and is known across the world for how unique it is and how long it has been home to the mighty Blues.
We’ve seen all the pictures and artistic renderings of what the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock looks like and while it is a step into the future, it’s not the same old copy-and-paste job you see from other new stadiums.
It does look unique – like Goodison does.
Let’s hope that before it’s officially opened that we have something to really cheer about in the final years at the Grand Old Lady.
She hasn’t seen silverware in a very long time. Wouldn’t it be great to take the FA Cup back there before moving out?
In other Everton news, a BBC pundit claims these Blues stars will be unexpectedly shunned by Rafa Benitez.
