Michael Ball slams Farhad Moshiri for Marco Silva appointment
Farhad Moshiri has been slammed by Michael Ball for his decision to appoint Marco Silva the Everton manager in 2018.
The Portuguese came to Goodison Park on the back of two decent, albeit not extraordinary stints at Hull City and Watford, and was not able to handle the enormity of the job.
In his second season, things started to turn sour and the club eventually decided to relieve him of his services in December 2019 after a 5-2 defeat against Liverpool.

Discussing Moshiri and his judgement of managerial appointments, Ball told Football Transfer Tavern, “In the past, he’s made decisions probably against the fans.
“Bringing in Marco Silva was a big question mark. Why are we paying money, a transfer fee to bring Marco Silva in?
“What did he sort of do to even warrant being an Everton manager?”
A tad harsh
Silva may not have been the best of fits for Everton, but we have the benefit of hindsight to make that assessment.
His credentials prior to taking the job were intact and he was held in high regard by some of the Premier League’s top managers.
He undoubtedly punched above his weight at Hull City and his team at Watford went off a cliff once the Everton links kicked as he seemed to have one eye on moving to Merseyside as soon as possible.

Our brand of football under Silva wasn’t too bad and it resulted in his 4-0 thrashing of Manchester United. While we know one game isn’t enough to say he did a good job, we finished in a respectable 8th place on the table.
The following season he got sacked and it was completely merited as the team were in relegation trouble. But, to pin this entirely on Moshiri would be harsh.
Hopefully, his recent decision of appointing Rafa Benitez works out well for the club as there is some scepticism about it going into the new season.
