Rafa Benitez plans direct talks with Richarlison over Everton future
Rafa Benitez is planning direct talks with Everton forward Richarlison, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Brazilian international is set for the Olympics and has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for a reunion with Carlo Ancelotti.
Romano shared that no negotiations or talks have taken place with Madrid, and Benitez is keen to keep him at Goodison Park.
Writing for CBS Sports after the conclusion of the COPA America, Romano shared the latest update.
“After Copa America and ahead of his performance in the Olympics, Richarlison will need to talk to Everton about his future,” he wrote.
“There are many rumours about Real Madrid, but so far there has been no offer. Carlo Ancelotti loves Richarlison but has not initiated negotiations to buy him.
“Rafa Benitez intends to speak directly with Richarlison to convince him to stay another season at Merseyside with the Toffees.”
Benitez clearly is fearful of losing Richarlison, with all the signs negative since his arrival at the club a couple of weeks back.
Despite being away at the COPA America, the Brazilian was locked in a huge dispute with the Toffees over going away to the Olympics.
Ancelotti knows it will take a huge offer to get Richarlison to Madrid, whether the player himself tries to force a move or not.
With the possibility of missing the start of the season, this meeting between Benitez and Richarlison may have to wait for another month.
Everyone involved will be hoping that it goes well, but the fact we have allowed the striker to go to the Olympics should leave the ball in our court – let’s not hope for more controversy.
