Everton-linked Clement Lenglet will not leave Barcelona this summer – ESPN journo

Everton summer target Clement Lenglet is unlikely to leave Barcelona this summer, according to ESPN’s Samuel Mardsen.

The cash-strapped Spanish side desperately need to reduce their wages in order to register their new signings of this window.

Lenglet has been linked with a move to the Toffees [Fichajes], but Mardsen believes that the France international will not be leaving Camp Nou as things stand.

He wrote via his personal Twitter account, “On Lenglet-Everton rumours.

“Last week, player’s camp said there had been interest (no names) but that they had been clear with the clubs: Lenglet is not moving this summer.

“Maybe that changes with big offer if Barca try and push out, but that’s situation at the moment.”

Better options there

Lenglet may be at Barcelona and a full France international, but he’s not among the best of defenders there are and is prone to making defensive errors.

He’s good with the ball at his feet and can go about his business when he’s protected in a system that’s tailored to keep the opposition at bay, but isn’t someone who would bail the team out by putting his body on the line.

Everton

The Frenchman is still to play in the Premier League so we’re not sure whether he would be a good fit for the fast and competitive nature of England’s top flight.

For Barcelona and France, he’s been in teams that dominate the ball and are expected to win every game – something which is not the case at Everton.

We need a defender who primarily knows how to defend and is good in the air so he can deal with aerial balls. Sure, it would be beneficial if he’s adept with his feet too, but as of now, we don’t think Lenglet has done enough to prove that he’ll be a success in the Premier League.
