Rafa Benitez wants to create a winning culture at Everton

Rafa Benitez wants to create a winning culture from day one at Everton.

The Spaniard was fielding questions from journalists during his first-ever press conference as Toffees manager, and has revealed one of the conversations he has had with the senior players.

Benitez wants a winning mentality from the get-go when the campaign resumes, and Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has reacted, taking to his personal Twitter account to say: “If I was an Everton fan I would be excited.”

Much-needed paradigm shift

Everton players need to have a winning mentality heading into the new campaign, and the onus is now on Benitez to instil it into the squad.

The Toffees lost a lot of Premier League games at home last term while winning more on the road, and it dealt a massive blow on our top-six chances.

Benitez is tasking them with embracing a winning culture, but the difficult task could be implementing it during his debut campaign at Goodison Park.

Should we be excited? Maybe, but we want more than just promises and mere words.

The Spaniard has been tasked with succeeding where four of his predecessors under owner Farhad Moshiri failed, and it is by no means an easy task.

A lot would need to change for the players to buy into Benitez’s principles, and that could require some major squad changes.

We are more than capable of challenging for the top-six every season, and the former Liverpool boss will definitely win the doubters over should he hit the ground running next season and take us to Europe.

However, it is easier said than done.
