Everton in hunt to sign Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic
Everton are interested in signing Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic this summer, according to talkSPORT.
In a post on their official Twitter account, talkSPORT reports that while Begovic, 34, has one year left on his contract with the Cherries, the Championship club could let him leave on a free transfer.
Jordan Pickford and Joao Virginia are the only two senior goalkeepers at Goodison Park as it stands.
Superb back-up option
Begovic ticks every single box you need for a back-up goalkeeper.
The 6ft 6in colossus [transfermarkt] has an abundance of experience having made over 250 Premier League appearances across spells at Portsmouth, Stoke, Chelsea and Bournemouth.
He’s also someone who played regularly last season with him earning 47 Championship appearances for the south coast club.
Begovic was part of an underwhelming season for Bournemouth but he’s clearly not done yet and could play a big role at Goodison Park if Pickford ever gets injured or suspended.
And we all know Pickford has a tendency for his form to drop massively so Begovic is someone who we should be able to trust to stand in for him whenever needed.
It’s also good news that he could be available on a free transfer.
That will allow Rafa Benitez to spend money on strengthening other areas of the squad that are in need of improvement.
If we get Begovic this summer, we could have the best two goalkeeper combination in the whole of the top-flight.
This would be great work by Marcel Brands and Benitez.
