Everton interested in Ross Barkley reunion as Chelsea sanction exit
Everton are in the hunt to secure a sensational reunion with 27-year-old midfielder Ross Barkley this summer, according to 90min.
The online news outlet claims there is “interest” from Everton for the Liverpool-born playmaker who rose through the Blues ranks before leaving for Chelsea in 2018.
Newcastle United are also credited with an interest in the 33-cap England international who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa.
Former Blues boss David Moyes also wants to sign him if he cannot prise Jesse Lingard from Manchester United.
Chelsea will let Barkley leave, and they could even sanction another loan exit.
It will be interesting to see the reaction of Blues fans to this news.
Of course, there’s no suggestion that a bid is imminent, merely “interest” from the club.
Barkley looks certain to leave Chelsea again this summer after finding his route to the first-team blocked by the likes of N’Golo Kante and Mason Mount, and he will be desperate to get his career back on track after struggling in recent years.
On his behalf, a move back to Merseyside could greatly appeal, a place he is so familiar with.
However, should Everton really be looking backwards?
There’s not much to suggest that he would be someone that could drag the Blues to the next level, despite Neil Warnock calling him a “phenomenal” talent last year, and thus he would merely be a squad player.
James Rodriguez was signed last season as a mercurial playmaker hoping to get his career back on track and he struggled after a bright start, so it would seem an odd move to try a similar trick again.
