PSV grant Dumfries permission to speak to clubs, Everton want to sign him
Everton manager Rafa Benitez has given Marcel Brands the green light to make a move for PSV right-back Denzel Dumfries this summer, according to The Express.
The newspaper reports that PSV have given Dumfries, 25, permission to negotiate a deal with other clubs as a summer move away from Eindhoven looks increasingly likely.
It is understood that Everton are “actively working on the deal” to sign the Netherlands right-back and the Blues are trying to convince him “that Goodison Park is the perfect next step in his career”.
Dumfries a no-brainer
We all saw what Dumfries was capable of at the European Championships this summer.
It’s a shame that the Netherlands went out as early as they did because the PSV right-back was easily one of the most exciting players at the tournament.
He scored goals in back-to-back games against Ukraine in Austria in the group stages and wreaked havoc on defences in the right wing-back role.
For PSV last season, Dumfries also impressed as he played 41 times in all competitions, scored four goals and supplied nine assists.
He is the epitome of a modern-day full-back or wing-back, who’s attacking prowess is as good as wingers and other forward players.
It’s a no-brainer for Everton to sign him this summer as Benitez has inherited a squad that is in need of a new right-back.
Seamus Coleman isn’t getting any younger and it could be time for him to finally step back and someone come in to make that right-back slot their own.
If Brands wants him, Benitez wants him and PSV are happy to let him go then this is a deal that we’d expect to get done.
Asmir Begovic and Andros Townsend have already been signed and Demarai Gray also seems to be on his way based on widespread reports.
Dumfries would easily be a more exciting signing than those.
