Tottenham Hotspur set to snare Everton chief Chris Perkins
Everton head of academy recruitment Chris Perkins is set to make the switch to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, according to football.London.
The online news outlet claims the north London outfit are “set to appoint” Perkins as their new “head of emerging talent”.
He only joined Everton in 2020 Spurs have swooped in after identifying him as a key figurehead for the future of their academy.
It’s understood Everton have placed Perkins on gardening leave until he officially departs the club.
He made his name as head of academy at Derby County before he moved to Merseyside.
It’s not just the playing staff that is seeing a reshuffle this summer.
Perkins’ move looks to be one that has been initiated by Spurs and the man himself, so it’s likely to have come as a blow to the Blues hierarchy who are now searching for his replacement.
That’s likely to fall under the remit of director of football Marcel Brands and head of recruitment and development Gretar Steinsson, both of whom will be tasked with finding someone who sources the next batch of emerging talent.
Everton have been gearing up their youth recruitment over the past 18 months or so, with Perkins playing a key role since his March 2020 appointment, but he’s been tempted away by Spurs.
It’s unlikely to have a huge impact on current circumstances, as one would imagine most summer targets for the academy have already been identified, and there are other people in place, like Brands, who can cover negotiations in the meantime.
