Everton-linked Kurt Zouma set to be used as makeweight in Chelsea bid for Jules Kounde
Everton must act fast and make a move to sign 26-year-old central defender Kurt Zouma after a huge transfer development at Chelsea.
The French international spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Everton, making 32 Premier League appearances and scoring twice.
He returned to Chelsea in the summer of 2019 and has gone on to make a further 79 appearances for the west London side over the last two seasons, helping them to the Champions League title earlier this year, but Telefoot1 reporter Julien Maynard claimed on July 9, via his personal Twitter profile, that Everton are interested in re-signing the player.
Maynard said that Zouma is “expected” to leave Chelsea this summer and that he had already turned down a move to Wolves.
But if Everton do really want to sign him, they will have to launch a bid soon after a major Tuesday night development at Stamford Bridge.
Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, writing via his personal Twitter profile [27/07/21], has claimed that Zouma could be used in a deal to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.
He wrote: “Chelsea are in advanced talks with Sevilla and Kurt Zouma could be included in the negotiation. Possible swap deal to go through in the next hours/days with Zouma and money for Kounde to Chelsea.”
Therefore, the Blues must step up their pursuit if they have any designs on improving their backline with Zouma.
There are four senior centre-backs already at the club, but Ben Godfrey is the only one who truly convinced last term.
Yerry Mina has had injury issues and has not been able to maintain a consistent place in the starting XI, while Michael Keane and Mason Holgate had some calamitous moments last season.
Rafa Benitez is famed for his sturdy backline, and he will surely want to add more steel to his defence.
The powerful presence of Zouma would do just that, but the Blues board will have to act fast if they want to sign him.
