Everton could resume talks for Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes

Everton continue to show an interest in Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes and talks over a move could be resumed, according to Record.

Discussions over a deal had been at an advanced stage, but the Toffees opting for Rafa Benitez ahead of Nuno Espírito Santo delayed everything.

However, the Portuguese newspaper report that the Spaniard loves what he has seen and heard about Nunes, with the Primeira Liga clubs ready to accept £15.3million to sell the Brazilian.

A needed addition

The central midfielder ended last season with three goals and two assists in 31 league games, and we reckon Everton could do with at least one addition in the department this summer.

Andre Gomes has failed to live up to the billing since joining from Barcelona, and it could be time to move him on for an upgrade.

Nunes appears to have caught the eyes of Benitez who would have done his homework on every of our summer targets thoroughly, and parting with £15.3million for the signature of the Brazilian makes sense.

The midfielder knows how to pick a pass, and his exceptional dribbling abilities would get the Goodison Park crowd off the edge of their seats.

We do not have a lot of exciting players in the team, and while Benitez could not care less, landing someone capable of entertaining the fans remains appealing.

Nunes has a lot of years ahead of him and the potential to become a world-class midfielder.

Benitez would relish the chance to turn him into the finished article, and we are keeping our arms across to see whether Everton can get a deal over the line.
