Richard Keys hits out at Rafa Benitez again over Everton comments
Richard Keys has taken another swipe at Everton manager Rafa Benitez after reading his recent quotes on trying to rebuild his reputation.
The beIN SPORTS anchor has not been shy to show his disdain for the Spaniard’s appointment at Goodison Park this summer, saying it will “end in tears” last month [Richard Keys blog].
Now, with just 12 days until Everton’s Premier League season starts at home to Southampton, Keys has hit out at Benitez again after sharing newspaper quotes from the ex-Liverpool boss that he saw online.

Writing on his personal Twitter profile in response to Benitez saying the Blues gig is “an opportunity to show I am still competitive and capable of competing against anyone”, Keys wrote: “No Rafa. It’s not about you. It’s about what you can do to help Everton compete with the best again.”
Grudge?
Keys clearly has some sort of agenda against Benitez, and he’s refusing to let it go.
The Spaniard’s move to the blue half of Merseyside was not a popular one when it was announced last month, with many supporters unwilling to forgive his previous time at Liverpool and comments about Everton during his spell there.
However, a month into his tenure, even the most ardent Benitez critics have settled down and are willing to give him a chance out of love for the club.
Keys, though, is continuing with what appears to be some sort of campaign against Benitez.
It’s starting to become tiresome now – is Benitez not allowed to talk about himself at all now?
Of course his main focus will be on Everton and fulfilling his and the club’s ambitions with the Blues, but most people still get a lot of their own motivation from personal goals or trying to prove people wrong, and if it helps Benitez succeed at Everton, what’s the issue?
It’s time for Keys to drop the agenda now, at least until Benitez has had the chance to manage some competitive football with the Blues.
In other Everton news, the club are desperate to shift one player from the wage bill.
