Everton ready to sell Andre Gomes, Benfica want to re-sign midfielder

Everton are open to selling midfielder Andre Gomes this month with Benfica interested in re-signing their former player, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Gomes, 28, joined the Blues from Barcelona in 2019 for £22million when Marco Silva was in charge but has never thoroughly impressed on Merseyside.

He’s not the only player the Toffees are ready to sell this summer with the Echo claiming that Fabian Delph and James Rodriguez are also available if the right offer comes in.

Time to move on

Everton have a lot of deadwood floating around at Goodison Park and while it would be harsh to stick Gomes in that category, he’s definitely someone who should be moved on this summer.

It remains to be seen how much of that £22million the Blues will be able to recoup for the Portuguese midfielder but it’s unlikely it’ll be anywhere near the full amount.

During his time at Goodison, Gomes has played 81 times and last season, he only managed to make 17 Premier League starts.

Of course, he did suffer that horrific leg break and has done incredibly well to get himself back to full fitness – especially at the speed he did.

There’s no doubting his commitment and his professionalism but Gomes just isn’t good enough for the direction we want to be heading in, unfortunately.

We are sad it hasn’t worked out for him on Merseyside and we wish him the very best in the future if he does end up leaving the Blues before the end of this month.

In other Everton news, Fabrizio Romano has mooted a move to Goodison Park for this “perfect” midfielder who was once compared to Xavi.
