Mark Sullivan slams Everton players for abject display v Man United

MUTV pundit Mark Sullivan slammed the Everton players for the abject performance against Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.

With only a week left for the new season, many expected the Toffees to hand a tough fight to the Manchester outfit.

However, they crumbled like a pack of cards and suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat, conceding three in the first half of the contest.

Discussing the game with former Man United defender Wes Brown, the presenter Sullivan said, “Rafa Benitez must be scratching his head as to what to do.

“Manchester United have been far too good for Everton today. They just haven’t been good enough.”

Things need to improve

While we’re not reading too much into our pre-season form, there still is a lot of work to be done and things need to improve soon, especially given what an unpopular appointment Benitez has been.

Against United, we never seemed settled. There were times we struggled to put five passes together and looked completely all over the place against a well-drilled side.

Lucas Digne and Andros Townsend were probably the only two players who looked in decent touch, but the rest of the squad appeared like they still were on vacation.

Jordan Pickford and then Asmir Begovic were both at fault for at least one goal each and this is not a good look ahead of the new season.

Benitez will certainly have been given a major shock ahead of the new season and this is the week where he must get the team onside and for him to come out with a proper playing style for our opener against Southampton.

With performances like these, it’s hard to see the fans getting excited to go to Goodison Park or to actually get behind Benitez as eventually the blame is drawn on one person and that’s the man in charge of the players.
