Everton interested in signing Royal Antwerp defender Aurelio Buta

Everton are very keen on signing Royal Antwerp right-back Aurelio Buta this summer, according to Calciomercato.

His performances last season have seen a number of clubs show an interest in him, with Scottish side Celtic appearing the favourites to secure his services at one point.

The 24-year-old is understood to be valued between £2.5million and £3.5million with Antwerp looking to pocket a sum under £1.5million from his sale as they owe 50 per cent of the future resale fee to Benfica.

Can do better

While the Portugal defender would prove to be a bargain at that price, he wouldn’t necessarily be an upgrade on Seamus Coleman – which is something our new right-back must be if we are to progress this season.

We’ve got Jonjoe Kenny who’s currently there as his backup, but even he is not good enough to push Coleman for a spot in the playing eleven, and could be on his way out if we sign another full-back.

However, if Marcel Brands and Rafa Benitez have decided to prioritise signing the 24-year-old, then they must act quickly as Celtic are also reportedly hot on his heels.

Per Sky Sports, Celtic are in talks for the player and are prepared to offer a fee in the region of £4.5million which is more than the valuation mentioned in the Calciomercato report.

In fact, if they sign him, it would be a blessing in disguise as we can then focus on better players who are as good as if not better than our existing options in that department.
