Everton want to sign 20y/o Wolves midfielder Owen Otasowie

Everton want to sign 20-year-old Wolves midfielder Owen Otasowie, according to Belgian news outlet Voetbalkrant.

The USA international, who recently won the CONCACAF Gold Cup with his nation, wants to leave Wolves this summer in order to play more regularly.

However, while Everton have shown “concrete interest” in the Molineux man, Voetbalkrant claims Belgian Jupiler League side Club Brugge are close to signing him, and they can offer him first team opportunities.

Uninspiring

Otasowie may be a fine young player who will go on to achieve great things, but it appears fanciful that he would be bought with the idea of thrusting him straight into the Everton starting XI, or even challenge for a spot.

The New York-born central midfielder made his Wolves debut against Turkish giants Besiktas in 2019, but he made just six appearances during the 2020/21 campaign for the West Midlands side.

Clearly, he wants to move on to accrue more minutes in senior football, but it’s doubtful he would get that at Goodison Park with the likes of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure around.

As such, it appears a move to Club Brugge is more likely.

Rafa Benitez looks to be on the hunt for a new central midfielder this summer, something that would be welcomed by many supporters, but the names being mentioned about haven’t exactly caught our attention.

Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff and Aston Villa’s Marvelous Nakamba are two that have been reported as targets of ours, and Otasowie is the most recent uninspiring name linked to the Blues.

Surely we need to be looking higher if we have any designs on breaking into the European spots.
