Everton in hunt to sign Lorenzo Insigne

Everton are showing a “real interest” in Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne, according to Sky Sports Italy journalist Luca Marchetti.

Sky Sports Italy reports that Inter Milan are also keen on the 30-year-old Italy international, who is in the final year of his contract at Napoli and valued at £25.4million.

Marchetti claims that Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg are also interested in signing Insigne.

“Real interest in Insigne comes from Everton where Rafa Benitez is, from Zenit St Petersburg,” said Marchetti, as quoted by CalcioNapoli24.

Wow

Insigne would be an incredible addition to the Everton squad, especially as Benitez’s signings have been quite underwhelming so far.

We’ll see the Blues kick off their 2021/22 Premier League campaign on Saturday when they take on Southampton but since the end of last season, only three players have been signed and none of them are ones that will get us out of our seats.

Insigne, however, will.

The Euro 2020 champion is one of the best forward players in Italian football and last season he scored 19 goals and supplied 11 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

He can play on the left-wing or as a striker and also played for Benitez during the Spaniard’s spell at Napoli from 2013 to 2015.

At the back-end of Rafa’s reign in Naples, the now-Everton manager was quoted by Forza Italian Football as saying Insigne was “one of the most important players in Italy and crucial for Napoli”.

Six years later and that statement is still true with the 30-year-old spending his entire professional career with the Gli Azzurri and also making the fifth-most appearances for them in their history and scoring the fifth-most number of goals.
