Kevin Campbell shares verdict on Everton swap deal for Sean Longstaff
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has insisted that Everton would be smart to swap Tom Davies for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff this month.
The Chronicle shared that link earlier in the month, but played it down at that time, although it may have progressed with time.
Campbell did hail the form of Davies last season but admitted that Rafa Benitez will know Longstaff much better from his time on Tyneside.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I think that could make sense.
“Rafa Benitez knows Longstaff, knows what he’s capable of. Benitez doesn’t really know Davies that well.
“Tom Davies had a good second half of the last season, but it’s a turnover of players which Benitez knows and what they will bring.
“It could be good for both parties.”
No need?
Davies and Longstaff at first glance look very similar players, and it would appear that it would make little sense.
The Toffees mainstay definitely proved he could shine under Carlo Ancelotti when given the chance last season, and this new system could suit him under Benitez.
Playing a flat 4-4-2 on Saturday eventually worked, and it meant that Davies could be the rotation option off the bench, with Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure starting.
Longstaff would just be doing the exact same thing if the deal was done, so we would much rather just work with our own and help him improve even further.
