Everton playmaker James Rodriguez rules himself out of Leeds United clash

Everton playmaker James Rodriguez has ruled himself out of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Leeds United at Elland Road.

The Colombian star, speaking via his official Twitch account on Monday evening [16/08/21], has confirmed that he will not be playing the West Yorkshire outfit.

He said: “Everton are playing this Saturday but I’m not going to play.”

Colombian media channel El VBar Caracol also detailed the news on their Twitter profile.

They wrote: “James Rodriguez confirmed, in his Twitch broadcast, that he will not play this weekend with Everton.”

“Will he arrive at the call-up with Selection Colombia?”

COVID-19

There were a lot of consipracies last week when it was reported that the 30-year-old was not training with the senior Everton squad, and for good reason.

The South American star has endured a dismal 2021 on Merseyside so far, suffering with injuries and seeing Carlo Ancelotti leave the Blues for Real Madrid.

To add to his woes his old boss Rafa Benitez was appointed as Ancelotti’s successor, with the pair famously not seeing eye-to-eye during their time together in Spain.

It’s highly speculated that Rodriguez will leave this summer, but it transpired that the real reasons for him missing training last week and the opening fixture with Southampton on Saturday was due to being stuck in COVID-19 isolation.

It would appear he is still unable to interact with others, though he did not give a definitive reason for missing the Leeds game this weekend.

In other Everton news, the agents of this Blues-linked international attacker have flown into Europe to plot his expected summer switch.
