Newcastle United want £10million for Everton target Sean Longstaff
Newcastle United have placed a £10million price tag on midfielder Sean Longstaff amid interest from Everton, according to the Daily Mail.
Toffees manager Rafa Benitez is interested in reuniting with the 23-year-old at Goodison Park having given him his senior debut at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle would lose Longstaff for nothing next summer as there has been no talk yet of him signing a new contract, and they could be forced to sell him if Everton or other suitors meet their demands.
Time to move?
Benitez is an admirer of the qualities and talents of the Newcastle academy graduate, and it is not a surprise that he wants him on Merseyside.
The Spaniard loves to work with some of his old players at every new club he moves to, taking Salomon Rondon with him to China and bringing Andros Townsend to Everton.
It is what most top managers love to do, and we are with Benitez on this one.
Back in February 2019, the former Liverpool boss said Longstaff deserved to be called up to the senior England side after just seven first-team games for Newcastle [The Guardian].
Given that he is a perfectionist who does not shower praise on his players unless it is earned and fully deserved, Benitez must have been blown away by the midfielder’s talents.
Unfortunately, the youngster has struggled to come close to fulfilling his potential under Steve Bruce, and he would crave a reunion with his former boss in order to get his career back on track.
We believe Newcastle could be ready to accept slightly below £10million for his signature, and Everton should not hesitate to swoop.
