Everton to sell Nathangelo Markelo amid interest from Holland

Everton are reportedly ready to part ways with midfielder Nathangelo Markelo this summer as he has only a year left on his deal.

According to The Liverpool Echo, the 22-year-old has been attracting interest from Holland after spending last season on loan at FC Twente and talks are said to be underway.

Despite signing a new deal last year, the club are unwilling to keep the Dutch youth international and are expected to sell him in the coming days.

Right move?

At 22, Markelo would have to be registered in the Premier League squad should Rafa Benitez have wanted to play him this season.

However, he does not seem to have progressed enough and rather than losing him on a free next summer, it would be wise to cash in on him in the coming days, given the interest in his services.

Markelo is an extremely versatile player. He’s predominantly a midfielder, but is also capable of playing at right-back and centre-back.

While having such players in the squad could be beneficial, they’ve got to be at the level where the manager can rely on them, and unfortunately for Markelo, he’s just not developed as much.

Everton

Having joined the club in 2017, the Dutchman was given ample opportunities to prove his credentials and hopefully, a move to his home country may help him get his career back on track.

He was training with the first team, per the club’s official website, and also talked about the opportunities to work with Carlo Ancelotti.

However, he was then loaned out and is unlikely to play another game for us again.
