Joao Virginia to seal Everton exit in two days

Everton goalkeeper Joao Virginia is set to join Sporting Lisbon on loan by Saturday, according to The Liverpool Echo.

The report details that the two clubs are already in talks over the deal and the second loan spell of his career should be sealed in a couple of days.

According to O Jogo, Everton will pay 50 per cent of the 21-year-old’s wages while he’s out on loan and per Record, Sporting will have the option to sign him permanently for £3million next summer.

Good move

With Asmir Begovic’s arrival, Virginia was unlikely to get game time in the cup competitions or the league should Jordan Pickford get injured or suspended.

At 21, he knows it’s important for him to get regular game time, which was not an option at the club, making up his mind to part ways and leave Merseyside.

While he’s going on an initial loan, we fully expect Sporting to use the option to buy in the deal and complete his permanent signing in 12 months.

Virginia is a player with a high ceiling and has already impressed Dave Unsworth in the past.

Speaking to The Liverpool Echo last January, the Everton U-23s coach said, “Unbelievable. Fantastic. I’ve spoken to [first-team goalkeeping coach] Alan Kelly, who’s a big fan of his, and so am I.”

We’re confident that he will be a success in Portugal and are looking forward to seeing the player he develops into.

We’ve been tracking his career as he was tipped for big things at Goodison Park, but it unfortunately did not work out the way we thought it would.
