Fabrizio Romano: Everton yet to table official bid for Harry Winks
Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Winks has unfollowed his club on Twitter and Instagram amid reports linking him with Everton.
The Toffees are looking to bolster their midfield, and Sky Sports Italy’s Fabrizio Romano claimed earlier this month that the 25-year-old England international was on Everton radar [Last Word on Spurs].
Last Word on Spurs host Ricky Sacks have asked the Italian journalist today (Friday) for an update after confirming he had unfollowed the North London club on social media.
He replied on their YouTube account (at 15.33): “I’m told that Everton had an interest in him but it was never with an official bid or advanced talks with Tottenham, so that’s why the situation has been quiet on Everton side.
“He wants to stay to show what he can do and is not one of the priorities for Spurs to sell as of now.”
Move off?
While a move to Goodison Park is looking unlikely for Winks, could he be moving elsewhere?
Players often unfollow their clubs on social media only when they are considering leaving or after their departure, and the midfielder is definitely up to something.
Everton boss Rafa Benitez would love to sign his own players, and we reckon he is likely to be more interested in a move for Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff instead of Winks.
The Spaniard knows the youngster well and they have been in touch regularly since he left St. James Park [The Athletic].
The Daily Mail claimed this week that Newcastle are willing to sell the midfielder for £10million, and that is something we should be able to afford.
Spurs are not likely to be willing to sell Winks for that amount even if they make him available for transfer before the window shuts.
Everton have to let go of some of their high earners before major signings can be brought in, though, and we have struggled to get that done so far.
Until then, completing a move for Winks, Longstaff or anybody else that would command a sizeable fee seems off the cards.
In other Everton news, Toffees want to sign midfielder, £10m would get deal done.
