Everton push hard to sign Matheus Cunha, Hertha Berlin forward ‘really likes’ Blues

Everton are pushing hard to sign 22-year-old Brazilian attacker Matheus Cunha from Hertha Berlin, according to Matteo Moretto.

The Sky Sport journalist, writing via his personal Twitter profile on Monday morning, claims the 2021 Olympic Games winner admires the Merseyside club.

However, reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are firmly in the hunt to sign Cunha.

Morreto wrote: “Atletico Madrid has Hertha’s Matheus Cunha tied for 26 million [£22.3million] +% future sale.

“The Brazilian really likes Everton who has been pushing for him for days. Nothing closed yet. The Rojiblancos think about it and handle other options on the bed. Today final decision.”

Dream

Cunha would be the perfect addition to our frontline alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.

Skilful and with an eye for goal, Cunha is among the hottest young talents to emerge from South America in recent years.

After arriving in Europe in 2017, Cunha lit up the Swiss Super League at FC Sion before moving to Germany a year later.

After struggling to establish himself in a star-studded RB Leipzig side, he moved to Hertha and has scored 12 goals in 38 Bundesliga appearances while making himself a mainstay of the Brazil Under-23 team.

He starred alongside Richarlison at the summer Olympic Games and could now line up alongside him at Goodison Park, though a deal is by no means certain with Spanish giants Atletico firmly in the hunt to sign him.

Champions League football could swing the deal in their favour, but it’s good to know he admires Everton and would likely consider a move to Merseyside.
