Atletico Madrid were keen on Everton attacker Moise Kean
Atletico Madrid considered signing Everton attacker Moise Kean but managed to secure their primary target in Matheus Cunha, claims Fabrizio Romano.
The Everton attacker had been linked with a move to Paris St. Germain previously, but once Lionel Messi signed, those reports went cold.
Now, the Sky Sports Italy journalist has stated that Atletico Madrid also were looking to sign him, but he was not a priority.
Via his personal Twitter account, he wrote, “Official and confirmed. Matheus Cunha joins Atletico Madrid from Hertha Berlin on a permanent move, contract until June 2026.
“Final fee will be €26m plus 10% future sale. Atleti were also considering a move for Moise Kean – but the priority was Matheus Cunha.”
Good news
Had they not signed Cunha, there would’ve been an entire transfer saga linking the Italian to the Spanish capital.
Everton are already likely to lose an attacker in James Rodriguez and with no one else coming through the door, keeping Kean on board could benefit the club.
It would give Rafa Benitez more options in the final third and Kean’s versatility means the Spaniard could deploy him anywhere.

The Italian hasn’t been handed a proper chance under any manager on Merseyside so maybe Benitez can help take his game to the next level.
In an interview with Tribal Football BBC pundit Pat Nevin referred to the attacker as “amazing”.
At 21, Kean is extremely young and has his best days ahead of him and could prove to be like a new signing for the Toffees this summer.
It remains to be seen what happens between now and the end of the window, but it’s looking likely that he stays at Goodison Park.
