Kevin Campbell reacts to Everton exit of Thierry Small

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has reacted to Thierry Small leaving Everton this week to join Southampton.

The young left-back cut ties with the Toffees this week amid concerns over playing time at Goodison Park.

Campbell believes that the “unbelievable” consistency of Lucas Digne means that Small will not get the chance on Merseyside.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “The big problem is that you can’t offer him games.

“Lucas Digne has been unbelievable, so Small, you can only offer him bit-part appearances and he’s an ambitious young man.

“It’s something that he has made a bee-line in his head where he is going to go and get game time.”

Problem?

Small may have been demanding first-team football, but that was never going to happen at Goodison Park.

There may be an attitude problem behind his demands, and getting rid may be the best way to solve this issue.

Digne is easily the number one choice at Goodison Park, and Niels Nkounkou shined against Huddersfield last night.

Small is behind those two, no matter how bright his future has been predicted to be, and of course, he will now drop down the pecking order at Southampton.

Starts aren’t guaranteed there either, and maybe the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
