Kevin Campbell: Demarai Gray is thriving at Everton

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has been thrilled by the start to life of Demarai Gray at Everton this season.

The winger has struggled in recent years at Leicester and Bayer Leverkusen and has been crying out for consistency.

Campbell believes Gray has been crying out for some love from his managers, and Rafa Benitez is giving him that.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I just think he is one of those players who needed a bit of love.

“He needed a manager to believe in him, someone who said to go out and play, because he’s got all the talent, all the attribute.

“It’s just about piecing together the consistency and he’s done that in the last couple of games.”

Shining.

Gray has been electric at the start of this season and got his reward with that goal against Leeds on Saturday afternoon.

The winger must keep paying back Benitez for the trust he has placed in him, keeping him in the side while dropping Andros Townsend.

It is easily one of the biggest bargains we have secured since Seamus Coleman at Goodison Park.

Consistency is key, and two games doesn’t amount to that so we need to keep seeing more progression.
