Everton table bid to sign Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie

Everton have reportedly tabled a bid for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie with a view to signing him this summer.

According to Italian media outlet TuttoSport, the Toffees are one of three Premier League clubs including Aston Villa and West Ham to have made an offer to Juventus for the 22-year-old.

The United States international’s future at the Juventus Stadium remains undecided, but the Serie A giants are understood to be lining up a like-for-like replacement in the form of Borussia Dortmund’s Axel Witsel.

Would be a good move

McKennie arrived at Juventus with plenty of fanfare and has done well during his time in Italy.

He’s looked sharp, aggressive and has always appeared to have an eye for the forward pass.

The Old Lady appear to be in some sort of turmoil this summer, with a new manager, Cristiano Ronaldo’s probable departure, and their financial issues.

Letting of go one of their assets in McKennie would be a good move on the economical side of things, but it will be interesting to see whether Max Allegri sanctions the player’s exit.

Speaking of McKennie in 2017, before he became a prominent name on the European stage, Schalke’s academy coach Norbert Elgert waxed his lyrical.

He told SBI Soccer, “Wes is a player who does well for each team. He is a player who can be a tower in battle. A high-powered player, I predict an interesting future in professional football.”

It would be interesting how he deals with the game in England as it seems tailor-made for a player of his exploits to thrive in.
