Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri rules out Weston McKennie sale amid Everton bid report

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has seemingly ruled out any chance of Weston McKennie leaving for Everton this summer.

Italian news outlet TuttoSport reported earlier today [Friday, 27/08/21] that Everton had tabled a bid for the 22-year-old USA international.

However, in quotes relayed via Fabrizio Romano’s Twitter account, Allegri has ruled out selling him.

He said: “Weston McKennie has to stay here at Juventus, he’s not for sale.

“He’s part of the project and he can improve.”

Midfield blow

McKennie always seemed like a fairly ambitious target for Everton given he enjoyed a good debut season with Juventus, making an impression in Serie A as well as the Champions League.

His place was put under some doubt, though, with a return of Miralem Pjanic mooted for some time, as well as the likes of Paul Pogba who is consistently linked with the Old Lady.

McKennie, who won the Gold Cup with his national team earlier this summer, has all the attributes to thrive in the Premier League as an athletic and combative midfielder who can tackle and score goals.

He would be perfect for Everton as a third midfielder when Rafa Benitez wants to adopt a slightly more cautious approach to games, possibly against the so-called elite sides in the Premier League.

A midfielder of McKennie, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure would be a formidable proposition for most opponents, though there may be a slight lack of creativity.

However, it looks like the Blues will have to turn their attentions elsewhere if they are to bring a new midfielder in this summer with Allegri set on keeping him around for the 2021/22 campaign.

In other Everton news, the Blues are confident of signing this record-breaking striker amid an approach to his Saudi-owned club.
