Everton open talks to sign Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon
Everton have opened talks to sign former Newcastle and West Brom striker Salomon Rondon, according to Sky Sports’ Alan Myers.
The Toffees have been looking to reinforce their attack this summer, and despite signing Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray, they’re intent on roping in the 31-year-old Venezuelan striker.
Via his personal Twitter account, the Sky Sports news editor wrote, “Everton in talks to sign Salomon Rondon.”
Woeful move
What Everton needed was a wide attacker who could bolster their attack and be an upgrade on the current options.
With James Rodriguez and Moise Kean most likely to be shown the door before August 31, the squad is extremely thin on the flanks.
However, what Marcel Brands and co have gone for, is pretty baffling, to say the least.
Sure, Rondon may have had some good moments in the Premier League, but he’s on the wrong side of 30 and will be third in the pecking order for the Toffees.

Rafa Benitez is likely to have played a role in this pursuit, having waxed his lyrical previously. [Sky Sports]
Rondon’s former teammate Matt Richie also was blown away by the striker in 2019.
Speaking on talkSPORT [18/03/19, 12:20 pm], he said, “He has been fantastic, great character, not only that but his goals, he is priceless really. He has been fantastic since the day he walked in the door.”
We’re afraid that while all these rosy references make Rondon appear like a quality player, he’s not the same striker he was a few seasons ago.
If the Toffees don’t sign another forward this summer, their fans are justified to be fuming with the board.
