Fabrizio Romano: Everton not looking to hijack Daniel James deal
Everton are not keen on hijacking Leeds United’s move for Manchester United forward Daniel James, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 23-year-old Wales international has been linked with a move to Elland Road all day on Monday, but there were social media whispers that the Toffees were plotting their own move [Football Insider].
That does not appear to be the case, though, and the Sky Sports Italy journalist has poured cold water on the reports.
Romano posted an update on his personal Twitter account on Monday evening.
He said: “Been told Everton are currently not hijacking Daniel James deal.
“Let’s see what happens but it’s always been Leeds United since today around 1 pm and also now.
“Deal set to be signed. Permanent £24million (€28m) guaranteed
“He’s expected in Leeds tomorrow to sign the contract.”
Let’s see what happens?
Romano is not completely ruling out an Everton move for the Man Utd ace with that particular line, and anything can happen as far as transfers go.
Leeds themselves know all about this having come very close to signing the winger in January 2019.
James had already passed a medical at Elland Road and was already having interviews and had snapped announcement photoshoots ahead of the deal being announced.
However, the deal for the former Swansea City star fell through a few minutes ahead of the deadline, and Marcelo Bielsa’s side will be hoping history does not repeat itself.
Man Utd are said to be open to a loan deal, and ideally, that would appeal for a team like Everton.
Manager Rafa Benitez would love to further strengthen his attack, but Financial Fair Play rules have not made that possible.
James is arguably an update on Alex Iwobi, and he is without a doubt a signing the Toffees could do with in attack.
Are the Merseysiders looking to snatch the Welsh from under the nose of Man Utd?
