Simon Jordan slams Everton transfers following heavy losses

Simon Jordan has torn into Everton for making significant losses in the 2019/20 season which impacted their spending this summer.

The Toffees managed to get a few experienced and Premier League proven players through the door, but none of them were names that particularly excited the fanbase.

Per Transfermarkt, the Toffees spent just £1.8million all summer which was what they shelled out for Demarai Gray as the rest of their players came on free transfers.

Discussing the running of the football club, Jordan said on talkSPORT, “I think they’re all over the place and this is a club that are struggling.

“When you lose £139million in the year ending 19/20 before you even post the figures for 20/21 you can’t put forward the argument that you’re a well-run club.

“You’re going to be in the Financial Fair Play territory, that explains the reason why they’re not buying players and if you like at their signings they’re not the greatest.”

Nailed it

The board haven’t dealt Rafa Benitez a fair deck of cards so if things suddenly start going south, they’re as accountable for the club’s failings as the Spaniard.

Given the signings, none of them significantly improve the first team and are mere placeholders who could go on decent purple patches in different parts of the campaign.

Everton

What Everton needed were a couple of quality signings who would be instant picks in their respective positions.

Barring Gray, who’s hit the ground running at the club, no other signing is really an upgrade on their current options.

It’s certainly a challenge to get to last season’s points total, but given their start to this campaign, things are looking good as things stand.
