Kevin Campbell reacts as Everton miss out on Ainsley Maitland-Niles
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has reacted to the transfer saga of Everton chasing Arsenal defender Ainsley Maitland-Niles on deadline day.
The Toffees missed out despite the England international requesting a move to Goodison Park at one stage of the day.
Campbell insisted that Maitland-Niles would have been perfect for the Blues as he brings so much versatility.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “Possibly, who knows what’s going to happen at Arsenal?
“To get him on loan, Ainsley Maitland-Niles would have a been a great one for Everton because he is so versatile.
“He can play right-back, left-back and in midfield, so he can play anywhere. It would have been great for Rafa Benitez to get a gadget player, but Arsenal are not in the business of giving talent to a rival.”

Missed out?
It wasn’t the huge name signing that everyone was hoping for, but it would have been a brilliant addition.
Rafa Benitez has his starting line-up nailed, but the strength in depth in this squad leaves a lot to be desired.
Maitland-Niles covering numerous positions would have gone a long way to solving that, but it just wasn’t meant to be in the end.
Hopefully, it doesn’t come back to haunt the Blues, with Seamus Coleman starting the season in brilliant form at Goodison Park.
One injury could change that, but fingers crossed it doesn’t come down to that at any point of the campaign.
