Darren Bent claims Everton fans may change their stance on Rafa Benitez

Darren Bent claims Everton fans may reconsider their stance on Rafa Benitez given how well he’s fared in his initial days at Goodison Park.

The Spaniard was appointed amid growing scepticism from the Everton faithful given his prior association with Liverpool.

He had also made certain comments about the Toffees that may have rubbed some fans the wrong way.

However, Bent believes that Benitez’s first few months have charge may get the fans to be more sympathetic towards him.

He said on talkSPORT, “They’ve been very, very good. Maybe Everton fans are looking and saying ‘Maybe we were a bit harsh on Rafa’.

“I remember them winning their first four games last season and then they completely fell apart.

“I don’t think that’ll happen with Rafa. I don’t think he’ll allow it to happen.”

Done a good job

There was a reason the board went for Benitez, knowing he would be a divisive figure.

Despite the protests, some more extreme than others, they were unwavering in their support towards the Spaniard and it’s now paying off.

While these are early days and tougher challenges lie ahead, so far he has left little to complain about.

The team are playing a decent brand of football, the new signings, especially Demarai Gray, have been integrated well.

Given the amount of money spent, it will be unfair to expect something improbable from the Toffees boss.

Even the club finish in the top half again, it should be considered as a decent showing with all the other challenges the club has been facing.
