Kevin Campbell tips James Rodriguez for Everton role
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has tipped James Rodriguez for a role in the Everton first-team this season after failing to find an exit.
The Colombian was tipped for a major exit from Goodison Park over the summer and was desperate to leave [The Athletic].
Campbell hailed the “quality” of Rodriguez and believes he could be a real weapon for Rafa Benitez to initially use off the bench.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “No, I think Rafa Benitez might use him.
“Depending on where and when, but the fact of the matter is, he’s a quality player. He might not start the game, but having him to come off the bench and influence the game, that could be really good.
“He’s got that extra bit of quality, and he can pick a pass so I think Rafa Benitez will use him.”
Quality.
No one has ever questioned the quality of Rodriguez, but his was always hit fitness or attitude that held him back towards the end of last season.
If the South American can get himself fit and buy into the new methods of Benitez, he can really thrive under the Spaniard.
Playing in a 4-4-2 system has seen the Toffees shine, but that is one problem as it doesn’t suit Rodriguez.
Coming off the bench will be perfect though, as the playmaker can decide a game easily in one moment when it opens up, and that is a real weapon.
The time is coming to see if Rodriguez is ready to buy into the new regime at Goodison Park, and quick.
