Kevin Campbell hails Everton & Calvert-Lewin for int’l break decision

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell have hailed Everton and Dominic Calvert-Lewin for dropping out of the England squad during this break.

The Toffees talisman has started the season with a knock and has taken this break to remain in Merseyside and recover.

Campbell believes that Calvert-Lewin is the main man at Goodison Park, and is needed desperately by Rafa Benitez moving forward.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “There’s no point in taking a risk.

“Everton need him desperately, and he’s the main man, goalscoring wise. I just think it’s too early in the season to be taking a risk on a potential injury that could be cleared up in the next 10 days.

“I think they’ve done the right thing.”

Smart.

As Campbell mentioned, there was never a point in sending Calvert-Lewin away for him to only potentially be ruled out for much longer.

England have done just fine without him, easing past Hungary and Andorra, and will likely do the same against Poland.

Benitez will have been left raging should he have gone away with the Three Lions, and then have to miss months through an unnecessary blow against a minnow country in World Cup qualifiers.

Hopefully, this has now given Calvert-Lewin time to recover and hit 100% as he looks to continue his phenomenal start to the Premier League season next week.
