Donny van de Beek reveals why move to Everton failed this summer
Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has spoken out about his failed move to Everton on deadline day this summer.
The 24-year-old’s agent Guido Albers recently told Ziggo Sport Voetbal [05/09/21] that Farhad Moshiri and Marcel Brands held talks over bringing the Dutch international to Goodison Park in the transfer window.
He claimed that Manchester United blocked the move as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans to give him more game time this season.
Speaking about his failed move to Goodison Park on deadline day, van de Beek told Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel, “I spoke with the manager about [Everton] and with the club and they were clear they want to [keep] me here.
“The manager was really positive about me and he said I need you and I want to keep you here.
“I need to trust him. If he doesn’t need me I think he will let me go, so I think he has plans for me. I just need to work hard and I hope I can show the people what I can do.”
Big blow
The 24-year-old would’ve been an ideal signing for the Toffees and walked right into the playing eleven.
At Man United, he’s fallen way down the pecking order and we don’t believe that he’s going to be first choice there any time soon.

He’s been used sparingly over the last season by Solskjaer and has been in the shadows of the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.
At Goodison Park, he would’ve played in a free midfield role ahead of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure and been given the licence to wreak havoc in the final third.
In 2018, he was described by Goal as someone with “excellent control and a great eye for a pass”.
Rafa Benitez likes his midfielders to be disciplined, but with the right balance, he prefers them to express themselves too.
Everton have lacked a creative number eight for a while and the 24-year-old could’ve filled that void, but unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.
