Everton winger Andros Townsend reacts to Richarlison question from Ally McCoist
Everton winger Andros Townsend has refused to comment on Sunday’s controversy between Brazil and Argentina after being asked about Richarlison.
There were chaotic scenes in Sao Paulo between the South American giants on the weekend as Brazilian health officials stormed the pitch in the first half to demand the deportation of four Argentina players who had violated the country’s Covid-19 rules.
Brazil were without any of their Premier League players for their September fixtures, including Richarlison, but Argentina called up Emiliano Martinez, Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso and Emiliano Buendia.

Townsend, a free agent arrival at Goodison Park in the summer, appeared as a guest on talkSPORT on Tuesday morning [07/09/21], and he was asked about his teammates’ view of the incident.
Ally McCoist asked: “Richarlison must be the happiest man at Goodison, he’s saved himself a journey hasn’t he?”
Townsend replied: “[Laughs] No comment!”
There was a howler of laughter between McCoist, Townsend and host Laura Woods before the topic was abruptly changed.

Richarlison was in a jovial mood after the match was abandoned after eight minutes on Sunday, posting social media messages mocking Argentina.
However, it’s not known quite how he felt about being denied the chance to represent his country again.
He is known to be a proud competition for his nation and never shies away from representing them.
That was evident from his burning desire to play at both the Copa America and Olympic Games earlier this summer.
There were doubts over whether that would be possible initially but Everton gave their blessing and the 24-year-old subsequently reached the final of the former before claiming a gold medal in Tokyo.
Keeping Richarlison behind for Brazil’s September fixtures made sense on a number of levels.
Firstly, there is the issue of having to quarantine upon his arrival back in England.
Secondly, the Blues forward could really benefit from this break after a shortened break before starting the club’s first three Premier League games.
It looks like an inspired move all around.
