Istanbul Basaksehir progress in talks to sign Everton attacker James Rodriguez

Turkish giants Istanbul Basaksehir are reportedly progressing in their negotiations to sign wantaway Everton attacker James Rodriguez.

According to Win Sports TV journalist Pipe Sierra, they want to sign him on a loan deal with a £3million fee and no option to buy the 30-year-old at the end of the season.

They’re also willing to pay half his wages, but James is unconvinced by a move to the Turkish club.

Via his personal Twitter account, Sierra wrote, “Basaksehir is still interested in having James Rodríguez (30) for this season and is making progress in negotiations with Everton.

“Assignment without purchase option paying €3.5M, corresponding to half of his salary. However, they still do not convince the Colombian.”

Needed him off in the summer

Everton did not have too much to spend in the summer and could only sign players once they sold some of their big names, with James being one of them.

However, given the countless links to Italy and Spain, the 30-year-old stayed on at Everton and now even if he leaves and if there’s any substantial income generated from it, the club cannot spend it in the market as the window has closed.

Getting him off the wage bill could be beneficial, but the Toffees should explore the opportunity of using his services before his contract runs out and then get whatever they can from his sale when the window opens next.

Rodriguez is a player, who on his day, can terrify the best of defences. He’s got the ability to make something happen out of nothing and Benitez must try and get him onside.

It will be tough, but that’s what football management is about, and we’re confident that the Spaniard can convince the Colombian to give it his all until January.
