Kevin Campbell thrilled by Rafa Benitez start at Everton

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has been thrilled by the start to life of Rafa Benitez at Everton this season despite his lack of backing.

The Spaniard could only spend £1.7million in the window and had to rely majorly on free transfers at Goodison Park.

Campbell has predicted tough times ahead in Merseyside, but believes there will be no one better than Benitez to steer the ship.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I think Rafa Benitez is a safe pair of hands.

“He knows what he’s doing, he knows how to connect and build a team. They’ve had a few mistakes in defence with Michael Keane.

“Benitez is putting his style and his thoughts across to the team and they’ve responded, but there will be tough times ahead.

“Everton have a good squad. I expect Rafa to keep doing a good job.”

Tough times?

Every club goes through a rough period throughout a Premier League season, it is how you deal with that.

Benitez is no stranger to the league, and Carlo Ancelotti failed to get through that patch last season which ultimately cost the Toffees European football.

With Burnley, Aston Villa and Norwich coming up before West Ham and Manchester United, it is vital to get those points on the board.

Benitez will be happy with his business with Demarai Gray the standout man so far this season – getting the best out of him consistently could be critical.
