Istanbul Basaksehir failed to convince James Rodriguez and agent

James Rodriguez and his agent were reportedly left unconvinced by Istanbul Basaksehir’s offer despite them agreeing a deal with Everton.

The 30-year-old is understood to be looking for a move away from Goodison Park and saw the Turkish side make an initial offer for him, per Vole journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu.

After three days, he has now reported that they failed to convince the Colombia international and his agent to move to Turkey.

Via his personal Twitter account, he wrote, “Having agreed with Everton, Basaksehir could not convince James Rodriguez and his manager.”

Dead in the water?

The Toffees were open to letting go of the player, but he wasn’t quite convinced on a move to Turkey, which is understandable from his point of view.

Now, Rafa Benitez is likely to be stuck with a player who he did not want initially, but it could work out in the best interests of the club.

Everyone knows the talent James possesses, and should he hit the kind of form he did during his initial Goodison Park days, then Benitez wouldn’t mind having him in his side.

Yes, he may not offer too much off the ball, but on it, he’s a joy to watch and has the ability to break open defences with his killer passes.

He’s lethal on set pieces as well and makes the other attacking players around him better.

Hopefully, he and Benitez begin seeing eye to eye as it’ll be in both of their best interests to end this hostility and get back to performing for the club.
