Kevin Campbell: Sean Longstaff will leave for free, good signing for Everton

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has tipped Everton to take advantage of the ongoing contract saga between Newcastle and Sean Longstaff.

It has been reported by the Chronicle that Rafa Benitez is closely watching the situation and could take advantage with a deal.

Campbell believes that Longstaff will end up leaving for free, and that spending nothing will make the deal even sweeter.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “Not only a sensible signing, the manager knows him.

“When you don’t have to pay, it’s that much sweeter. A young lad come through the ranks, you’ve got to get him signed up.

“You’ve got to protect his value but I don’t know what is happening at Newcastle some times, he will leave on a free.”

Get it done.

Benitez admitted today that he is already looking towards the January window and new additions to his squad.

The Spaniard has worked wonders with free transfers so far, and Longstaff could perfectly add to that blend next summer.

With his contract quickly coming to an end, the Toffees could open talks in January and look to tempt Longstaff into a move to Merseyside.

It ticks all the boxes for both parties – midfield depth for the Blues and moving to a better, less carnage-filled set-up than Newcastle for the player.

This is one to closely watch, and expect developments as the year goes on – Campbell certainly will be.
