Kevin Campbell shares verdict on Everton-Donny Van de Beek saga
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell believes that Donny Van de Beek would have been a “quality” addition for Everton in the summer window.
The Toffees were eyeing the Dutch international before Manchester United blocked the move and saw it collapse at the 11th-hour.
Campbell insisted that the big problem is that Everton won’t be handed players from one of their Premier League rivals.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I think he’s a good player.
“He’s another player in the midfield that Everton could use. Someone with avid quality as well, so you could swap and change in there with different qualities.
“Am I surprised by United not letting him go? They aren’t in the business of improving Everton, that’s the big problem and it is a North West rival.“

Problem?
This was one that came at the very last moment of the window.
Rafa Benitez clearly wanted reinforcements in midfield, but numerous moves came and went in the space of the final days and hours.
Van de Beek appeared to be available given that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hardly handed him a chance at Old Trafford, but that isn’t the case as clearly proved.
Campbell is right, why would another side towards the top of the Premier League let one of their players leave to strengthen others?
Marcel Brands is back at square one, but now he has plenty of time before January to get his shortlist ready.
