Andros Townsend looking forward to playing with James Rodriguez
Andros Townsend is looking forward to playing alongside James Rodriguez after the Colombian failed to seal a summer exit away from Everton.
The 30-year-old South American was expected to leave Goodison Park before the transfer window shut, but a move did not materialise and he is now looking to work his way back into Rafa Benitez’s good books.
Townsend believes Rodriguez will be back in the team once the Spaniard feels the time is right, and he is waiting to achieve great things together with him this term.
The veteran winger told Sportsmail: “He’s a fantastic player. Everyone knows what James can do. I’ve had the pleasure of playing with him in the pre-season games. He’s still at the club and he’s fully focused.
“He’s trained really hard during the international break as we all have and we’re all looking forward to seeing what we can achieve this season. James is no different.
“I’m sure when the time is right, when the manager feels… he’ll be reintegrated back into the squad and back into the team.”
Everyone knows what Rodriguez can do on his day, and Everton can benefit a lot from having his creativity back in the team.
However, whether he can buckle down and meet the demands of the manager remains to be seen.
Benitez loves hardworking players who can regularly help out with the defensive duties of the team.
Rodriguez is not known for being a player that puts in the hard yards, and many had reservations over his ability to cope with the physical demands of the Premier League.
He struggled with that aspect of the game last term, and it was why he did not get along with the Toffees boss at Real Madrid.
Everton have played with a different type of verve this season, with every player working tirelessly and combining towards the common goal.
It is why they have hit the ground running so far, and Rodriguez has a lot of work to do if he wants to fit into this new team.
