Jack Cunningham Everton Fan Mailbag: When will Dominic Calvert-Lewin return?

Every week we’ll be asking Everton fans on our Twitter account for questions that will be answered by Goodison News correspondent Jack Cunningham. You can join in by following the Goodison News Twitter account and watching out for weekly mailbag posts.

As his ongoing injury issues continue, Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed England’s latest games and the Everton win over Burnley on Monday.

The 24-year-old has started the season brilliantly with three goals in his first three league games and has looked like the perfect striker for Rafael Benitez’s new system.

However, he was withdrawn from the England squad because of a broken toe and a thigh injury, but the time off didn’t do him any good, and he missed the Burnley match [Sky Sports].

We asked for your burning questions about the Blues this week for Goodison News correspondent Jack Cunningham to answer, and one Toffees fan asked about Calvert-Lewin’s injury.

Paul asks a very good question as the England striker is a key player for the Toffees and has been for some time now.

The 24-year-old evolved under Carlo Ancelotti and scored 29 goals in just 60 games for the Italian, and now he has the chance to become even better under Benitez.

The Spaniard appears to see Calvert-Lewin as his number one striker, so the quicker he is back, the better.

Benitez stated after that game on Monday that Calvert-Lewin would be out for another two to three weeks or possibly longer [Daily Mirror].

He was then asked the same question on Thursday and confirmed that nothing had changed and the Toffees will be without their talisman for at least a few more games [Liverpool Echo].

Calvert-Lewin’s problem is that he has suffered two injuries, so that will probably further complicate matters.

However, it does appear as if the striker will be available to Benitez at some point in October unless he suffers any further setbacks.

So, in the meantime, the Spaniard will have to come up with an alternative, and I would love to see Salomon Rondon handed a chance to shine in Calvert-Lewin’s absence.
