Kevin Campbell shares if Salomon Rondon will start for Everton v Villa

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has insisted that Salomon Rondon is unlikely to start for Everton against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Venezuelan came off the bench to make his debut in the 3-1 win over Burnley on Monday, but the job was already done.

Campbell believes that Rondon is a great addition, but claims he won’t start against either Villa or Norwich next week.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I don’t know if he’s going to start.

“I think he’s still searching for fitness, I think he’ll be coming off the bench. He is an alternative to Richarlison and someone who can play up there and is very good playing with his back to goal.

“Obviously, he’s searching for fitness and I don’t see him starting for the next couple of games.”

Unlikely.

Rondon is a quality addition at Goodison Park, and adds to what Dominic Calvert-Lewin gives us in the final third.

When the England international is out injured, as he is now, there has been a real lack of backup options with that physicality.

Richarlison can only do so much as a lone striker and has always been better with that man alongside him.

Rafa Benitez may not be tempted to start Rondon against Villa or Norwich, but with the cup clash against Queens Park Rangers in-between, that could be the perfect chance.

Moise Kean started in the previous round, so that spot will surely be up for grabs on Tuesday evening.
