Everton reportedly offered David Luiz a contract this summer once his deal at Arsenal had expired.
According to an AS report, the Toffees were one among several other clubs that tried to sign the 34-year-old on a free transfer this summer.
Luiz, a former Champions League winner, eventually ended up moving to Brazilian club Flamengo.

As the Brazil international did not end up moving to Goodison Park, Toffees fans celebrated it and were surprised that he was on the club’s radar.
They believe he’s past his best and some would not have taken him even when he was at the peak of his powers.

The Toffees could do with another centre-back, but certainly not one of Luiz’s calibre.
The Brazilian is past his best and would be a danger more than a utility should he have been signed.
He would have wanted certain assurances with regard to playing time and there’s no way he’s better than Ben Godfrey, Yerry Mina or even Michael Keane.
Someone inside the boardroom would have a lot of explaining to do had he ended up on Merseyside.
His stint at Arsenal proved that he’s not a Premier League level defender anymore and he’s probably found his level in Brazil.
