Matt Holland was impressed with Asmir Begovic save v Villa

Asmir Begovic made a thrilling save in the first half of Everton v Aston Villa to deny Tyrone Mings a goal in the early stages of the contest.

Sky Sports pundit Matt Holland who was on co-commentary for the World Feed was blown away by the exploits of the 34-year-old.

Deputising for Jordan Pickford, the Bosnian did exceptionally well in the first half, but was on the receiving end of three goals in the second – which ensured that he ended the evening on a disappointing note.

Speaking about the save, Holland said, “It was superb from Begovic. He’s playing his first Premier League game in a while, but has started this one really strongly.”

Disappointing encounter

Villa looked the more formidable team from the first minute of the game and ran out deserving winners at the end.

However, a 3-0 scoreline flattered them as the game was closer than that and should Demarai Gray have buried his chance, we could have been here discussing a different outcome altogether.

That’s not to take away any blame from the Toffees players who all put in sub-par performances and have every reason to be left fuming.

Everton

They never seemed to go to that next level and find something from within to win the game, like they did against Burnley a few days ago.

It’s back to the drawing board for Rafa Benitez and it remains to be seen what changes he makes.

He was also unlucky by the number of injuries sustained, and it may be time for him to reintegrate James Rodriguez into his plans.
